Tessellation Design by T3 series
'student centered instruction, teacher centered value'
What is the T3 series Tessellation Design unit?
Over 145 minutes of student centered instruction for grades 6-12 delivered via CD-ROM media allowing each student to control playback and work at their own pace. Students learn to use the Microsoft Paint program as a design tool to create three types of Tessellation designs. This particular unit will provide the computer aided tutorials students will need to successfully complete three tessellation design types, namely, translation, rotation, and reflection.
Design Solutions computer based units of instruction provide teachers and students with the tools they need for successful student learning and achievement. With the 21st century emphasis on educational technology, these units provide much needed guidance for teacher and student. No added software is necessary. Students simply use the existing programs on their Windows based computer. (Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7) This classic was the first release in the Design Solutions Teachers Teaching Technology Series (2007).
This Teacher version includes 3 parts: First, a suggested curriculum that is aligned with national educational standards for mathematics, visual arts, and computer technology. These standards form the basis for suggested understandings and essential questions. Second, the instructional portion provides over 145 minutes of direct instruction formatted to be played on any computer using Windows Media Player ™, allowing students to proceed through each tutorial at their own pace. This provides a unique way to address differentiated instruction and multiple intelligences. Third, included is a performance based assessment rubric. Teachers and students may use the provided rubric for formative peer assessments, for summative self assessment, and for teacher final assessment. Five criteria are referenced including: canvas setup, computer applications, tessellation framework, alternating color pattern, and creative embellishment.
This series is recommended for the teacher who wants a simple way to integrate technology with standards based instruction into their existing program but may not know how. (Recommended for Grades 5-12)

Curriculum
This compact disc contains a valuable curriculum framework based upon multiple curriculum content standards. The standards used are national standards for Mathematics, Visual Arts, and Computer Technology. The curriculum framework document provides recommended standards which form the basis for suggested overarching understandings and essential questions to help foster inquiry and student achievement. These are then followed by recommended knowledge and skills.
Instruction (see TOC above)
At the heart of this unit is the audio-visual instructional tutorial. These instructional video tutorials are formatted to be played on the computer using Windows Media Player ™ allowing students to control playback and work through the direct instruction at their own pace. The student uses the Windows Paint™ program included on the computer to successfully complete one or more Tessellation design types. (Latest version of Windows Media Player, Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7 recommended)
Assessment
Prior to beginning work students should know what is expected of them and how they are being assessed. Therefore we have included a printable performance assessment rubric. Upon completion, students may be assessed according to the five categories supplied in the enclosed rubric; canvas setup, computer applications, tesellation design framework, alternating color pattern, and creative embellishment. Students may use the rubric for both peer and self-assessment and the teacher may use the same rubric for a final assessment.
